Inaugurado en 1902, el ascensor
El Peral es uno de los más
antiguos de Valparaíso. Su
primer propietario fue la Sociedad
A s c e n s o r C e r r o A l e g r e y
a c t u a l m e n t e p e r t e n e c e a l
municipio porteño. Intensamente
utilizado por las colonias
extranjeras que se asentaron en el
Cerro Alegre, hoy es demandado
por los vecinos y visitantes de esta
importante área residencial,
educacional y turística. En 1998 fue
declarado Monumento Histórico
Nacional.
Se encuentra emplazado entre dos
espacios urbanos característicos
de Valparaíso: la Plaza Justicia,
remanso dentro de la trama del
plan, y en su estación superior, el
Paseo Yugoslavo, mirador que
posee imponentes vistas tanto de
la bahía y puerto, como de la
Cordillera de Los Andes, y en el
que es posible no sólo contemplar
la ciudad sino interesantes
edificaciones patrimoniales de
influencia extranjera, como el
Palacio Baburizza.

Going up on El Peral
Opened in 1902, El
Peral funicular lift is
one of the oldest in
Valparaíso. Its first owner
was the Sociedad Ascensor
Cerro Alegre and currently it
belongs to the port's city
government. Intensely used
by immigrant communities
that settled in Cerro Alegre,
today it is used by residents
and visitors to this important
residential, educational and
tourist area. In 1998, it was
declared a National Historic
Monument.
It is located between two of
Valparaíso's distinctive urban
spaces: the Plaza Justicia, a
haven among the city's bustle
and its upper station, Paseo
Yugoslavo, a scenic overlook
and walkway that offers
stunning views both of the
bay and the port city as well
as the Andes mountain range
where you can not only look
over the city but also see
historic buildings, of foreign
design, such as the Palacio Baburizza.
