Al llegar al cerro, es posible
observar su mecanismo de
funcionamiento. Este ascensor
fue el primero en utilizar un
equipo de tracción a vapor y
poseía una chimenea que
llegó a ser una característica
del lugar.
El pasajero demorará 45
segundos en su recorrido
hasta arribar al Paseo
Yugoslavo. Es un ascensor con
alta frecuencia de uso, debido
a que conecta la Plaza
Sotomayor, centro urbano
neurálgico, con el turístico
Cerro Alegre.
Se eleva a una altura de 40
metros sobre el nivel del mar,
con un largo de rieles de 55
metros, con capacidad
máxima para ocho personas.
Constituye junto con los
ascensores Concepción y
Reina Victoria los que
comunican el plan de
Valparaíso con los cerros
Alegre y Concepción.

connects Plaza Sotomayor,
urban center point with the
touristic Cerro Alegre.
It rises to a height of 40
meters over sea level, with a
rail length of 55 meters and a
maximum capacity for eight
people. This lift, along with
the Concepcíon and Reina
Victoria funicular lifts, make
up the lift connections
between Valparaíso's city
center area and the Alegre
and Concepcíon hills.
