Sarah Bender, an international BBC radio correspondent from London,
interviewed some students about their opinions on how the economic crisis
has affected their lives. She was very impressed at the fluency of the students’
English abilities and the quality of the answers they provided, giving profound
insight about the economic crisis from a child’s point of view. Teacher Pedro
Aparicio Nicolás contacted the BBC and helped prepare Juan Santiago Sánchez,
Juan Pablo Alarcón and Jorge Fernández Villareal in their appearance. The

Cedros News International
Taking their cue from the BBC, a group of fifth grade students with the help of
some of our teachers have decided to undertake their own news media project:
Cedros News International (CNI). CNI was specifically designed to inform the
Cedros community of a variety of upcoming events in and off campus.
As can clearly be seen, the achievements of the Primary English Department
are significant. The 2008-2009 school year saw the creation of a variety of
new projects which in turn necessitated the creation of several new positions
in a variety of areas including Human Resources, Information Technology,
translations, a social studies coordinator, Science, two assistants to primary
coordination and one assistant in secondary, CIS and CIC coordinator, and a
certification officer.
The combination of professional growth and academic dedication is sure to
make the 2009-2010 school year even more impressive. This is something which
all of us here at Cedros, and in the Cedros community, should be proud of.
