TROIA DESIGN HOTEL INTERIOR DESIGNTroia (Alentejo coast), Portugal, 2007 – 2009LobbyGuestrooms and suitesTroia is a unique and delightful peninsulalocated 50 Km South of Lisbon, betweenthe mouth of the Sado River and theAtlantic Ocean, and across the riverfrom the fishing and port city of Setúbal.PROMONTORIO designed a large hotelcomplex with more than 70,000 sq.m ofspace and which includes a 5-star hotel,full-service residences, Spa, conferencecentre and a theatre with a mechanicalstage.For the interior design, PROMONTORIOproposed a celebration of contemporarycreativity not only in the space itself,but in a holistic incorporation of art,bringing together a collection of fineyoung artists, curated and selected by artcritic Miguel Von Hafe Pérez. This makeseach room, each passageway, each bar orlounge area part of a unique experience.While the façade of the new building ischaracterized by the sinuous lines andfluidity of water and sand surroundingthe whole ensemble, the 16-storey atriumdraws inspiration from the palette ofthe Hungarian-French Op artist ViktorVasarely and the multiplying effectsobtaining from the customized colouredcarpets on the mirror-clad bulkheads.The hotel bedrooms are large and have arelatively open floor plan from the bathingarea (bathtub and shower cabin) towardsthe room; however, care as been taken tohave the sanitary area fully enclosed andseparate for privacy and comfort issues.For the apartments, instead of glassedand transparent surfaces, there is walnutwood veneer in wainscotings and woodboarding on floors, given the more familyoriented typology.www.promontorio.net
