They are childrenwhose parents could not take care of them, sent to institutions,and who do not develop according to the expected standards: theyhave no disabilities but their development is not what is considerednormal, either. Such was Janaína, poor and black, who was sent to theFebem institution in the 80’s, who was restless in her cradle and would gethurt, who kept her hand palmed, who did not talk and get along with otherchildren. She is a designer, scenographer, costume designer, visual artist, photographer,curator, and movie maker. She works with a variety of formats ranging from super-8, passing through 16and 35 millimeters, to digital video. Her movie Uaká, from 1988, was awarded prizes in festivals such asD´Amiens, Brasília and Bogotá. In the 1990’s, she produced 30 documentaries by the Colombian AudiovisualDepartment of the Ministry of Culture (Divisão Audiovisual do Ministério de Cultura da Colômbia), whichwere presented in shows, festivals, and on television.
