Mérida
Es la capital de Yucatán y se le conoce como
la “Ciudad Blanca”, porque predomina ese color
en la mayoría de sus construcciones. Como ciudad
antigua, Mérida combina edificaciones modernas
con una majestuosa arquitectura, plazas
y jardines de trazo colonial. Entre sus atractivos,
están La Casa de Montejo, el Palacio de Gobierno
o la misma catedral, de estilo mozárabe
y considerada como el edificio más antiguo de
su género en América. Otras edificaciones son:
el Palacio Cantón, que alberga al Museo de Antropología
e Historia, y el teatro Peón Contreras,
de clara influencia europea.
Entre los espacios abiertos de la ciudad, destaca
el famoso Paseo Montejo, con sus mansiones
tipo europeo, y el parque Centenario, donde se
encuentra el zoológico de la ciudad. En la zona
de mercados, es posible adquirir prendas artesanales
típicas de Yucatán.
It is the capital of Yucatan and is known as the “Ciudad Blanca”, because
that color predominates in most of its buildings. As an ancient
city, Merida combines modern buildings with majestic architecture,
squares and gardens of colonial design. Among its attractions, are La
Casa de Montejo, the Government Palace or the cathedral itself, Mozarabic
style and considered the oldest building of its kind in America.
Other buildings are: the Canton Palace, which houses the Museum of
Anthropology and History, and the Peon Contreras theatre, of clear
European influence.
Among the open spaces of the city, highlights the famous Paseo Montejo,
with its European-style mansions, and the Centenario park, where
the city zoo is located. In the area of markets, it is possible to buy
handmade garments typical of Yucatan.
