International reference in
sports tourism
Salou is an international reference
in sports tourism.
Over the past years, the Municipal
Tourism Board of Salou has focused
on diversifying the offerings and reducing
the seasonality of the tourist
season through sports, a growing
field.
Throughout this 2023, several
major events covering a wide range
of disciplines are taking place,
including football (both male and
female), sailing, running, triathlon,
basketball, automotive rallies, windsurfing,
golf, and crossfit, among
others.
Salou has already been chosen as
the venue for many high-level international
sports competitions, such
as the RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa
Daurada and the Challenge Salou
(triathlon).
Moreover, as the capital of Costa
Daurada, it is an ideal destination for
outdoor sports all year round. The
climate, quality facilities, large natural
spaces, and magnificent landscapes
in Cap Salou make the possibilities
endless, with a perfect coastline
for hiking along the splendid Camí
de Costa.
In 2012, the Catalan Tourism
Agency awarded Salou the Sports
Tourism label. Since then, the municipality
has specialized in football,
thanks to the Mediterranean Sport
Village and its facilities at the Futbol
Salou Sports Center, as well as
in light sailing with the Club Nàutic
Salou. In 2018, it obtained the Cyclotourism
label, in 2020 the Golf label
in Catalonia, thanks to the Infinitum
Golf courses, and in 2021 the certification
for triathlon. Currently, the
municipality is considering destinations
for tennis and paddle tennis.
Salou is also part of the Nàutic
Parc Costa Daurada and Terres de
l'Ebre, which allows for a wide variety
of water sports activities.
