Jostakin syystä nimi ”Abloy” herättipoikkeuksellisen positiivisia tuntemuksia.Tässä lehdessä – kuten elämässäkin –Abloy on läsnä monessa: tieteessä, taiteessa, maailman päämajoissa tai vaikka elokuvaohjaajanukin vanerisessa työkalulaatikossa. Erityisen hyvältä tuntui kohdatatalossa vuosikymmeniä työtä tehneitäkonkareita, joita yhtiö nimittää mestareiksi- ikämestareiksi.”On hienoa olla osa Abloy-perhettä, siinäon jotain todella erityistä.” Näin tunteensailmaisee Abloy Security Ltd:n toimitusjohtajaRobin Rice. Joensuussa 18. 5. 2007Juhlalehden toimitusSustainable development“Change” is the in-word in today’s business and work. However, there are also permanentvalues – as evidenced by Abloy. Business structures, owners and employeeshave changed during Abloy’s centennial history, but the brand, which stems fromthe individual expertise of the company and from its unique basic product, stillflourishes. In 1989, Wärtsilä decided to give its main divisions operative independence, turningthem into separate limited companies and sub-groups. I – or probably anyoneelse – could not anticipate that just less than 4 years later I would be contributingto the merger of Abloy with its Swedish competitor Assa to become the leadinginternational corporation in its business.International expansion and growth to the pinnacle in its field guided Abloy evenbefore the new company had emerged. ASSA ABLOY offered a suitable shortcutto the international market and to growth.Ownership arrangements were nothing new to Abloy. These began decades earlierwhen Abloy was shifted from its founder Emil Henriksson first to the Kone jaSilta Group, then to Wärtsilä and later to Metra. The ABLOY brand has survived all these turmoils. The product and the underlyingunique technical innovation have evolved into a product image and corporateimage, which is one of the best known, most appreciated and longest lasting of itskind in Finland.ABLOY products have remained vibrant thanks to constant and open-mindedinnovation, R&D and marketing expertise. Abloy has often been a trailblazerwith respect to new products, production methods and procedures. On the otherhand, continuity and permanence are represented by the long employment relationshipsof management and personnel as well as by long-lasting customer relations;there is true commitment to building Abloy’s success.Abloy’s President Matti Virtaala talks about the future threats in an interview inthis magazine. He says that “it is a great challenge to keep a magnificent companyactive”. This is a very important observation, because you just cannot rest on thelaurels of success. In the next 100 years, corporate structures and ownership of companies will certainlychange again – as will the actual products. However, in the light of Abloy’spresent values and procedures, I firmly believe that the ABLOY brand will gostrong also in its coming bicentennial jubilee year.Timo Lehto is a business consultant who worked as Wärtsilä’s legal counsel when Abloy Oywas being established in 1989.
