MAYOR’S MESSAGE
Welcome to all our new residents
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our residents
who have moved to Shannon over the last few months. I am
certain that you will enjoy the quality of life in Shannon and that
you will find our community an excellent place to live and grow
with your family.
Summerfest
Thank you to the many volunteers who worked to make our annual
Summerfest such a great success. For those of you who attended,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend enjoying all our activities
from ball games to our strongman provincial championships to the
youngster’s competition. A great supper and an evening of music
and dancing were also enjoyed by everyone.
Thank you to our strongman resident, Hugo Girard, who is the
godfather of our competition. Thank you to Councillor Mario
Lemire for a well-organized weekend!
Rainwater Barrels
During the Summerfest weekend, the Municipality sold rainwater
barrels for 30$. This was possible with the help of IGA Convivio
from Val-Bélair who sponsors this type of activity.
Thank you to two of our employees, Normand Légaré and Vincent
Trudel, who organized this event with the cooperation of IGA.
We still have some 250-litre rain barrels available. This is a great
way to water your plants and save valuable tap water.
Would you be interested in a rain barrel? If so, please call the
municipal office at 844-3778.
Milestones
Congratulations and very special wishes go out to two Shannon
couples celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Samuel
and Anita DeGrace (August 11 th , 1962) and Ovile and Pierrette
Cormier (September 29 th , 1962). On behalf of all our residents, I
wish you both many more years of happiness, health and
prosperity.
Volunteer Recognition
On Saturday, July 28 th , a very special BBQ and evening was
organized by the municipal council to thank our volunteers in
Shannon. This year’s party was a great success and I thank
councillors Lucie Laperle and Stéphane Hamel who were the main
organizers and did a terrific job.
Below are my words of thanks that I addressed to our volunteers
that evening:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
It certainly is my pleasure to be able to thank you, our wonderful
volunteers. Thank you for accepting our invitation to come to this
dinner that we are having in your honour, to thank you in a very
small way for your involvement in our community.
Volunteers are the backbone of our Municipality. You give
generously of your time and energy and expect very little in return.
Over the last 5 years, our population in Shannon has increased by
33%. The more residents, the more services required, the more
need for active volunteers. Our Municipality would simply not
function without your involvement. You are the ones who make a
choice to do something to help make a difference. The gift of your
volunteer time is priceless. You do not necessarily have the time,
but you certainly have the heart.
Thank you for continuing to maintain the vitality of your community
and for enriching the lives of others through your generous work.
I want to thank you for continuing the important tradition of
volunteerism in our society. You are a role model for all our
residents and I congratulate each one of you for your leadership.
Sir Winston Churchill once said: “You make a living by what you
get, but you make a life by what you give”. And all of you do
certainly give a tremendous amount.
And now, let’s raise our glasses to all our volunteers, those
dedicated people who believe in all work and no pay.

and Mr. Mike Denis on the birth of their twin boys, Nayton and
Joey Denis, born on August 13 th 2012.

Good luck also to all our military personnel who will be away in
Wainwright, Alberta for approximately two months. Have a safe
