Regional Christmas Card Contest; It’s<br />
time to register!<br />
<strong>Shannon</strong>, July 23 r d , <strong>2012</strong> – Time flies! The MRC Jacques-Cartier has<br />
already announced the participation rules for the <strong>2012</strong> edition of the<br />
Regional Christmas Card Competition. Get your brushes out!<br />
Categories<br />
• Initiated artists; not making a living from their art, the artist paints on a regular basis and derives a gain, either by selling their work, by<br />
teaching art or by participating in exhibitions;<br />
• Casual artists; artists painting out of pure joy, without economic gain;<br />
• Young talent; must be 15 to 19 years old;<br />
• Teens; must be 11 to 14 years old;<br />
• Budding artists; for younger children between 5 and 10 years old.<br />
Only residents of La Jacques-Cartier and students of young talent, teens and budding artist categories who attend school on the MRC’s territory are<br />
eligible.<br />
Details about the Paintings<br />
• Only paintings on wooden frames are permitted;<br />
• Framing is optional;<br />
• Must not measure less than 8 inches x 10 inches and more than 24 inches x 36 inches;<br />
• Acrylic, watercolour, gouache, oil, pastel and mixed mediums are allowed;<br />
• For watercolours, the usual medium associated with this discipline is accepted.<br />
Eligibility Criteria<br />
• The artwork must represent a winter or Christmas scene;<br />
• The creation should never have been previously entered in this contest;<br />
• Only original works of art will be accepted;<br />
• No reproduction or modification of an existing artwork will be permitted;<br />
• Although not mandatory, judges will consider an artwork representing its territory<br />
Artwork that does not meet these requirements will be automatically rejected, but will still be part of the temporary exhibit following the competition.<br />
Special Conditions<br />
• The artwork is loaned to the MRC Jacques-Cartier from the day submitted until the end of the temporary exhibit of The Regional<br />
Christmas Card Competition;<br />
• The MRC Jacques-Cartier reserves the right to use an image of the artwork submitted to promote the contest whenever deemed necessary;<br />
• The participant authorizes the MRC Jacques-Cartier to publicly exhibit the artwork;<br />
• Neither the MRC Jacques-Cartier, nor the Municipality where the artwork was submitted are liable for damages caused by transportation,<br />
storage or display of the said artwork;<br />
• The artwork must be adequately protected for transportation;<br />
• The art work must be clearly identified on the back (name, phone number, category, title and medium used).<br />
• By entering the The Regional Christmas Card Competition, the participant agrees to all conditions of participation.<br />
Prizes<br />
Cash prizes of 150$ to 250$ will be awarded to the winners:<br />
Initiated artist: 250$ Casual artist 250$ Young Talent (15-19 yrs): 200$ Teen : 200$ Budding artist (5-10 yrs) :150$<br />
Furthermore, an additional 250$ will be awarded for the winning artwork to be illustrated on the MRC Christmas card. Finally, a special draw for the<br />
“most appreciated work of art” will be awarded 150$ along with a participation prize, valued at 50$.<br />
All artwork will be presented in a temporary exhibit. The winners and their award winning artwork will also be advertised in local and regional media,<br />
in addition to being broadcast in the permanent virtual exhibit presented on the site www.culturejacquescartier.com .<br />
Submitting your artwork<br />
All artists must submit their artwork before October 17 th , <strong>2012</strong> to the Jacques-Cartier MRC at 60, rue St-Patrick, <strong>Shannon</strong>.<br />
An award evening will be held in November, the place and the date will be confirmed later.<br />
The Jacques-Cartier MRC is composed of municipalities to north of the Québec City, including Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, Fossambaultsur-le-Lac,<br />
Lac-Saint-Joseph, <strong>Shannon</strong>, Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Lac-Delage, Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, Lac-Beauport and Sainte-Brigitte-de-<br />
Laval.<br />
