General<br />
Fill the water tank with fresh, uncarbonated<br />
water only and preferably use only beans<br />
or coffee blends suitable for fully automatic<br />
<strong>espresso</strong> and coffee mach<strong>in</strong>es. Do not<br />
use coffee beans that have been glazed,<br />
caramelised or treated with other additives<br />
conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g sugar, s<strong>in</strong>ce they will block the<br />
brew<strong>in</strong>g unit.<br />
The water hardness sett<strong>in</strong>g can be adjusted<br />
on this appliance. The factory sett<strong>in</strong>g for the<br />
water hardness is 4. Check the hardness<br />
of the water you use with the enclosed test<br />
strip. If the test reveals a value other than 4,<br />
change the sett<strong>in</strong>g on the appliance accord<strong>in</strong>gly<br />
after switch<strong>in</strong>g on (see “Sett<strong>in</strong>gs”,<br />
“Water hardness” on page 28).<br />
Sett<strong>in</strong>g up the appliance<br />
1. Remove the protective film.<br />
2. Place the fully automatic <strong>espresso</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e<br />
on a flat, waterresistant surface<br />
that can take its weight. The ventilation<br />
slots on the appliance must not be<br />
covered.<br />
Important: Only use the appliance <strong>in</strong><br />
frostfree rooms. If the appliance has been<br />
transported or stored at temperatures below<br />
0 °C, wait at least 3 hours before operation.<br />
3. Pull out the ma<strong>in</strong>s plug from the cable<br />
compartment (20) and plug it <strong>in</strong>. Adjust<br />
the length of the cable by push<strong>in</strong>g it<br />
back <strong>in</strong> and pull<strong>in</strong>g it out. To do this,<br />
place the appliance with its back flush<br />
with the edge of the work surface and<br />
either pull the cable downwards or<br />
push it upwards.
