4. Assemble the milk frother. Only use the<br />

appliance when the milk frother (6) is<br />

completely assembled and fitted.<br />

5. Lift the water tank lid (17).<br />

6. Remove and r<strong>in</strong>se the water tank (16)<br />

and fill it with fresh cold water. Do not fill<br />

above the max mark.<br />

7. Replace the water tank (16) and push it<br />

firmly downwards <strong>in</strong>to place.<br />

8. Close the water tank lid (17).<br />

9. Fill the bean conta<strong>in</strong>er (1) with coffee<br />

beans (for preparation us<strong>in</strong>g ground<br />

coffee see “Preparation us<strong>in</strong>g ground<br />

coffee” on page 30).<br />

10. Press the power on/off switch O/I (9) to<br />

switch on the appliance. LED D flashes<br />

and LED F lights up.<br />

11. Place a conta<strong>in</strong>er un<strong>de</strong>r the milk frother<br />

outlet (6).<br />

12. Carefully pull out the milk frother (6)<br />

to open it. The appliance r<strong>in</strong>ses out<br />

the milk frother (6) with water. LED F<br />

flashes.<br />

13. When LED F lights up constantly,<br />

press <strong>in</strong> the milk frother (6) to close it.<br />

The appliance heats up and r<strong>in</strong>ses. Some<br />

water will run out of the coffee outlet. When<br />

buttons A (12), B (11) and C (10) light<br />

up, the appliance is ready for use.<br />

Switch<strong>in</strong>g off the appliance<br />

If the appliance has not been used for<br />

an hour, it r<strong>in</strong>ses automatically and then<br />

switches off (the length of time can be adjusted,<br />

see “Sett<strong>in</strong>gs”, “Automatic switch­off”<br />

on page 28).<br />

Exception: The appliance switches off without<br />

r<strong>in</strong>s<strong>in</strong>g if only hot water or steam was<br />

dispensed.<br />

To switch the appliance off manually before<br />

this, press the service button (12). The<br />

appliance r<strong>in</strong>ses and switches off.<br />

Note: If the appliance is be<strong>in</strong>g used for the<br />

first time, the service programme has been<br />

run, or the appliance has not been operated<br />

for a long period, the first beverage will<br />

not have the full aroma and should not be<br />

consumed.<br />

When the fully automatic <strong>espresso</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e<br />

is first used, you will achieve a suitably thick<br />

and stable “crema” only after the first few<br />

cups have been dispensed.<br />

If the appliance is <strong>in</strong> use for a long period of<br />

time, water droplets will form on the ventilation<br />

slits. This is normal.<br />

Water filter<br />

Us<strong>in</strong>g a water filter can prevent a build­up<br />

of limescale <strong>de</strong>posits.<br />

A new water filter must be r<strong>in</strong>sed before it<br />

can be used. To do this, proceed as follows:<br />

1. Press the water filter firmly <strong>in</strong>to the empty<br />

water tank with the aid of the measur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

spoon (18).<br />

2. Fill the water tank (16) with water up to<br />

the max mark.<br />

3. Turn the rotary<br />

knob (13) to position<br />

4. Press and hold buttons B (11) and A<br />

(12) simultaneously for at least<br />

5 seconds. Either “off” or “on”<br />

lights up.<br />

5. Press the start button (10) to select “on”.<br />

6. Press and hold the start button (10) for<br />

at least 5 seconds to confirm. All of the<br />

LEDs light up briefly.<br />

7. LED D flashes and LED F lights up.<br />

8. Place a conta<strong>in</strong>er with a capacity of 0.5<br />

litres un<strong>de</strong>r the milk frother outlet (6).<br />
