Shortly after, he was recruited bythe Rocky Mountain Racers club and, un<strong>de</strong>r the watchful eye ofPeter Zi<strong>de</strong>k, began the enduring process of mastering his shot.Kurtis participated in his first national championship in 2006,and the following year represented <strong>Canada</strong> at the Youth WorldChampionships in Ruhpolding, Germany. Kurtis returned to thesport in <strong>2012</strong> after a brief hiatus where he shocked the world towin a gold medal at the Junior World Championships. When notcompeting or training in biathlon, Kurtis enjoys cross-countryskiing, mountain biking, cross-country running, and biking. Hispassions extend far beyond sport. He <strong>de</strong>dicates any free time leftto photography and film, backpacking, cooking and eating.Kurtis Wenzel s’est intéressé aux sports nordiques tôt dans la vie.Il s’est inscrit dans un programme <strong>de</strong>s Ours du <strong>Biathlon</strong> au Parcolympique du <strong>Canada</strong> à Calgary quand il avait douze ans. Trèsbientôt, il a été recruté par le club Rocky Mountain Racers et, entraînépar Peter Zi<strong>de</strong>k, il a commencé à se perfectionner au tir . Kurtis aparticipé à son premier championnat national en 2006, et l’annéesuivante il a représenté le <strong>Canada</strong> aux Mondiaux benjamins àRuhpolding, Allemagne. Après un bref congé, Kurtis est retourné dansle sport en <strong>2012</strong> et a fait sensation avec une victoire aux Mondiauxjuniors. Quand il ne concourt et ne s’entraîne pas, Kurtis aime fairele ski <strong>de</strong> fond, le vélo <strong>de</strong> montagne et la course à pied.Il se passionnepour bien plus que les sports: il aime aussi faire <strong>de</strong> la photographie,faire <strong>de</strong>s randonnées <strong>de</strong> longue distance, cuisiner et déguster unbon repas.
