Dans mon parcours, les femmes m’ont guidé, mais pas dirigé. Elles m’ont ouvert des portes. Elles m’ont donné de la force et une direction. Nous sommes complémentaires, comme la terre et le feu. Autodidacte, quasi autosuffisant, il a grandi entouré d’animaux de ferme, et de forêt. Sa réflexion sur le bois remonte à ses travaux d’école lorsqu’il ramassait, brossait et vendait des racines dans la cour de l’école. « Dans le cadre de l’éducation Steiner, nous devions explorer des domaines d’apprentissage, et je me suis intéressé assez tôt à l’œuvre de Brancusi. À 16 ans, je passais mes vacances en stages auprès des menuisiers de la région, pour apprendre et explorer ». Après avoir mené des études d’art à Maastricht, il a voulu évider un tronc d’arbre tout entier pour un projet. Comme il ne disposait pas des outils nécessaires et qu’aucun vilebrequin géant n’avait été mis à sa disposition, il a cherché une solution. Et découvert le feu, moyen le plus simple de creuser du bois. Avant de revenir vivre au plus près de la/sa nature, Kaspar s’est posé un temps à Bruxelles, y a créé un studio avec d’autres designers. Mais là, c’est la ville qui l’a brûlé de l’intérieur. « J’ai besoin de bouger, de travailler, de voir le résultat de ce que je fabrique avec mes mains. Les intermédiaires drainent mes énergies créatrices. Là où je suis maintenant, je dispose de toutes les connexions nécessaires, des interactions familiales ». Il a les branches et les racines. Alors il sculpte le bois, cette matière essentielle, impossible à galvauder. Et insuffle une dimension spirituelle à son travail : « je cherche toujours mon équilibre. Je suis balance, né en octobre. Toujours en mouvement, curieux. J’ai besoin de m’agiter toute la journée, et le soir, j’aime quand la fatigue physique me recentre ».
