LE SAVIEZ-VOUS ? L’Ouganda est le pays le plus en forme du monde ! D’après le dernier rapport de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé, l’Ouganda se démarque en tant que pays le plus actif physiquement dans le monde, avec seulement 5,5 % de sa population considérée comme inactive. PAR DAVID TOMASZEK après cette étude de D’ l’OMS rendue publique le 12 septembre dernier, 27,5 % de la population adulte mondiale, soit 1,4 milliard de personnes, ne pratique pas suffisamment d’activité physique. Cependant, ces statistiques dissimulent des disparités significatives. La France se positionne autour de la moyenne, avec 29,3 % de sa population concernée. En revanche, les États-Unis affichent un taux de 40 %, tandis que le Koweït détient le triste record avec 67 % d’individus inactifs. Un fait surprenant émerge de ces données, l’Ouganda présente le taux le plus bas, seulement 5,5 % de sa population étant considérée comme inactive. Du sport par obligation, faute de pouvoir s’offrir un moyen de locomotion ? Cette activité physique des Ougandais relève toutefois une réalité singulière. La BBC a exploité cette donnée pour enquêter plus en profondeur, débutant par le récit de Jennifer Namulembwa, une femme de ménage qui parcourt une heure et demie à pied pour se rendre au travail. Bien qu’elle aspire à avoir un moyen de transport, son salaire insuffisant le lui interdit. La BBC suggère que le rapport de l’OMS pourrait avoir eu en tête des individus comme Jennifer Namulembwa. Les pays à faible revenu, tels que l’Ouganda, le Mozambique, la Tanzanie, le Lesotho et le Togo, semblent encourager une quantité suffisante d’activité physique dans le quotidien de leur population, contrairement aux pays plus riches. Selon la BBC, les personnes vivant dans des pays à faible revenu ont tendance à intégrer davantage d’activité physique dans leur vie quotidienne, peut-être en raison de l’utilisation de moyens de transport et de professions impliquant un travail physique. Cependant, il demeure mystérieux pourquoi l’Ouganda surpasse d’autres pays aux revenus similaires, même si ses travailleurs, à l’image de Jennifer Namulembwa, dépassent largement les 75 minutes d’activité physique recommandées par l’OMS chaque semaine.
