Ein Konzert, bei dem er erstes Album "La fossette" komplett live nachspielte läutete As 20jähriges Bühnenjubiläum ein. Dann folgten Re-Issues seiner Studio-Alben und schließlich die Veröffentlichung des neues Album "Vers les lueurs". Das in einer inszenierten Live-Atmosphäre eingespielte Werk stieg in höchste Ränge der französischen Album-Charts. Die Presse liegt dem Sänger, der nebenbei noch seinen ersten autobiographischen Roman veröffentlichte, zu Füßen. Der Sound von "Vers les lueurs" ist ungewöhnlich und druckvoll. Vor allem Holzblasinstrumente wie Oboen, Flöten und Klarinetten bilden immer wiederkehrende Akzente und unterstreichen den eigentümlichen Charakter dieser unkonventionellen Platte. Il a marqué l’année de ses 20 ans de scène avec un concert où il a rejoué en live son premier album « La fossette ». Se sont succédés ensuite des Re-Issues de ses albums de studio précédents et finalement la publication de son nouvel album « Vers les lueurs ». Cet album enregistré dans une ambiance de mise en scène live, s’est hissé en haut des classements français. La presse est admirative devant ce chanteur, qui vient de publier soit dite en passant son premier roman. La sonorité de « Vers les lueurs » est inhabituelle, comme sous pression. Le caractère inhabituel de ce disque peu conventionnel est souligné surtout par l’utilisation des bois comme le hautbois, des flûtes et des clarinettes qui forment des accents qui reviennent régulièrement. Pure Dominique A. 13 // Liza mianiLi le petit train Als 17jährige fuhr Liza Manili häufig von ihrer Heimatstadt Straßburg mit dem Zug ins große Paris. Damals gab es noch keinen TGV auf dieser Strecke und die Fahrt mit dem "Petit Train" dauerte vier Stunden. Viel Zeit zum Nachdenken, den Träumen nachzuhängen. Und so wird die Zugfahrt zu einer Metapher für den Übergang von einem Zustand zum anderen, für das Erwachsenwerden und den Aufbruch zu neuen Horizonten. Ein einfaches Bild aber gerade deshalb so eingängig – genau wie der hitverdächtige Synthiepop Manilis, der sich auf der Hochgeschwindigkeits-Trasse in die Gehörgänge begibt. Das Stück stammt vom Debütalbum der heute 26 jährigen, multitalentierten Liza Manili – sie arbeitet als Schauspielerin, Model und Sängerin. Âgée de 17 ans, Liza Manili prenait régulièrement le train entre sa ville natale Strasbourg et la grande ville qu’est Paris. Back then, there was no TGV (high speed train) yet, and the journey with the "Petit train", the small train, lasted four hours. Lots of time to think and revel in dreams. And thus, the train ride becomes a metaphor for the transition from one state of mind to the next, for growing up and exploring new horizons. A simple picture, but therefore especially catchy – just like Manilis synthpop, potential hit material, which whooshes into the ear canal on a high speed track. The song featured here comes from the debut album of the now 26 year old, multi-talented songstress who also works as an actress and model.
14 // damien Drague Wer ist dieser Damien? Ein Pariser Dandy und ein Chanson-Avantgardist, der sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, sein eigenes Genre zu erschaffen. Damiens erstes Album "Flirt", das von niemand geringerem als "Chilly" Gonzales koproduziert wurde, bricht mit vielen Regeln der Popmusik. Sein Mut zu Theatralik und Übertreibung ist höchst unterhaltsam, die Arrangements kunstvoll und stilsicher. Und das Schöne daran: die Franzosen lieben diesen extravaganten Vogel. Vergleiche sind schwer zu finden, mit ein bisschen Phantasie hört man den frühen Katerine oder Bertrand Burgalat heraus. Beide ebenso wie er Grenzgänger zwischen Avantgarde und Pop. Que nous vivons une époque merveilleuse de la musique française, nous le remarquons d’une façon emblématique à travers Damien. Son premier album, coproduit par l’inestimable « Chilly » Gonzales, a rompu avec pas mal de règles de la musique pop. Son audace théâtrale et exagérée a des côtés très amusant, les arrangements artistiques démontrent un style assuré. Ce qui est bien c’est que les français aiment cet oiseau extravagant pour son audace. On a du mal à trouver des comparaisons. Avec un peu d’imagination, on y retrouve le Katerine de ses débuts ou Bertrand Burgalat. Tous comme lui des frontaliers entre art et pop. Who is this Damien? A Parisian dandy and a chanson avant-gardist who made it his goal to create his very own genre. Damien’s first album "Flirt", which was co-produced by no other than "Chillly" Gonzalez, breaks many rules of pop music. His courage for staginess and exaggeration is highly entertaining, the arrangements artful and with an immaculate sense of style. And the best thing about it is that the French love this extravagant odd duck. Comparisons are hard to draw – with a little bit of imagination, one can hear the early Katerine or Bertrand Burgalat, both crossover artist between avant-garde and pop, just like Damien. Von Langeweile kann keine Rede sein: Mathieu Boogaerts ist viel beschäftigt. Gerade ist sein sechstes Studioalbum erschienen ("Mathieu Boogaerts"), dessen Stücke er vor der Aufnahme in einer langen Reihe allwöchentlicher Konzerte im Pariser Club "Java" gespielt, getestet, verworfen, ausgewählt und verfeinert hat. Ein ungewöhnlicher Prozess, der ihn nach dem aufgekratzten 2009er Album "I Love You" wieder zum Kern seines Schaffens als Auteur-Compositeur-Interprète zurückgeführt hat: sparsam aber pointiert arrangierte Songs, die wie live eingespielt wirken und subtil ihren brillanten melodischen Kern freilegen – sozusagen der pure Boogaerts, der sich aller Hüllen entledigt, was er übrigens im Video zu "Avant que je m’ennuie" auch in die Tat umsetzt. On ne peut pas parler d’ennui : Matthieu Boogaerts est très occupé. Les morceaux de son sixième album (« Matthieu Boogaerts ») qui vient tout juste de paraître ont été joués, testés, remodifiés, choisis et affinés dans une longue série de concerts hebdomadaires au club parisien « Java » avant l’enregistrement. Un processus inhabituel après son album joyeux « I Love You » de 2009 qui l’a ramené vers l’essentiel de sa création en tant qu’auteur-compositeur-interprète : des chansons arrangées avec parcimonie mais pointue, comme enregistré en live, libérant subtilement leur noyaux brillant et mélodieux, c'est-à-dire le Boogaerts qui se libère de ses enveloppes, ce qu’il réalise par ailleurs en dansant dans son vidéoclip de « Avant que je m’ennui ». Being bored is definitely not one of his problems: Mathieu Boogaerts is, in fact, very busy. Just now, his sixth studio album "Mathieu Boogaerts" was released. All of the songs on it have – prior to recording – been played, tested, dismissed, selected and fine-tuned in a long series of weekly concerts in the Parisian club "Java". An extraordinary procedure that, after recording his exhilerated album "I Love You" in 2009, brought him back to his roots as an author/composer/singer: songs that are arranged sparingly but to the point, seem to be recorded live and release their brilliant melodic core in a subtle way.
