5.1. Food Crops
Total area of wet and dry land paddy in
Samosir Regency in year of 2008 were 6.011
hectares, consist of 2.623 hectares irrigated
area and 3.388 hectares depend on rain
water area.
Total production of wet and dry land
paddy in Samosir Regency increased 3,84
percent, that was from 46.395 tons (GKG) at
57,19 quaintal per hectare of productivities
in 2007 became 48.179 ton (GKG) at 57,17
quaintal per hectare of productivities in
2008.
By subdistrict, Palipi subdistrict
produced the biggest amount of paddy that
were 10.840 tons (22,50 percent) followed by
Sianjur Mulamula subdistrict with 10.637
tons (22,08 percent), Harian subdistrict with
5.771 tons (11,98 percent), Nainggolan
subdistrict with 5.444 tons (11,30 percent),
Pangururan subdistrict with 4.396 tons (9,12
percent), Onanrunggu subdistrict with 4.395
tons (9,12 percent), Simanindo subdistrict
with 3.270 tons (6,79 percent), Sitiotion
subdistrict with 2.200 tons (4,57 percent),
and Ronggurnihuta subdistrict with 1.226
tons (2,54 percent)
Total production of maize by the year of
2008 in Samosir Regency increased equal to
125,10 percent, that were from 1.498 tons at
40,92 quintal/hectare of productivity in year
2007 became 3.372 tons at 40,87 quintal/
hectare. Those increasing of production
caused by the increasing of harvest area
from 366 hectares in 2007 became 825
hectares in 2008. Pangururan subdistrict
produced 820 tons of maize in 2008 and at
40,00 quintal per hectare of productivity was
the producer of maize with the biggest
amount, followed by Simanindo subdistrict
with 668 tons of production and 42,01
quintal per hectare of productivity, and
Ronggurnihuta with 566 tons of production
and 41,10 quintal per hectare of productivity.

Soyabean crop only produced in Palipi,
Nainggolan, Onanrunggu, and Sitiotio with
31 hectares of total of harvest area and 41
tons total of production by the year of 2008.

In 2008, total production of peanut in
Samosir Regency were 341 tons at 10,42
quintal per hectare of productivity was
increasing if compared to 249 ton total of

area and 10,44 quintal per hectare of
productivity by the year of 2007.
Cassava and Sweet potatoe crop can be
found in all subdistrict in Samosir. Along the
year of 2008 the production of cassava and
sweet potatoe in Samosir were 3.216 tons
and 2.585 tons, each, tend to incline if they
were compared to production in the year of
2007, that is 2.437 tons and 1.969 tons each.
5.2. Horticulture
The most production of Vegetable crop
in Samosir along the year of 2008 were
potatoe with 11.610 tons of total production,
followed by chilli with 1.325 tons of total
production, Shallot with 1.261 tons of total
production, cabbage with 1.224 tons of total
production, Tomatoe with 370 tons of total
production, and other horticulture crop like
cucumber, swamp cabbage, yard long beans,
spinach, garlic, red bean, and leeks.
5.3. Smallholders Estates
Plantation in Samosir are categorized
as smallholder estate which coffee, candlenut
and clove were the most dominant plantation
crops beside others like cocoa, nutmeg,
areca, sugar palm, peppercorn, vanili,
cinnamon, coconut, cashews, and turmeric.
The most planting area were coffee at
3.747,62 hectares, consist of 99,80 hectares
of not yet productive, 456,20 hectares of
191
