The differentiation of the above-mentionedconcepts should necessarily be made with a view to their definitions andto those common and distinctive features, based on which their definitionshave been constructed. Irrespective of the fact that a text and a discoursehave a number of features in common (for instance, completeness, purposefulness, consecutiveness, etc.), these notions do not cover eachother, as far as “discourse” has been associated with the dynamic, creativeaspect of language, and comprises the extralinguistic factors influencingthe communication process. Not each text is a discourse, while adiscourse is always a text. Therefore, a text is a wider concept than a discourse. It is an intermediary phenomenon between, on the one hand, speech, communication, speech behaviour, and a written text, on the other.46
