8. Tables XIII and XIV wver the 445 principal banks. Table XIII ranks the banks by customers'
deposits as dcfined in Allegaio I / Annex 1.
Table XIV gives the banks' profit and lo& accaunts. Here ihe banks are listed on the same basis
as in Table XII1, but classilied into seven categories, as follows:

9. Tables XVII and XVIII cover the 133 principal insurance wmpanies. In Table XVII the
wmpanies arc ranked by 5oss premium incomc far the period, including policy charges. Table
XVII also provides restated profit and loss items, inter dia enabling a wmparison to be made
between premium income and claims applicable to the year.
Table XVIII gives the mpanies' balance sheets listed in the same order as in Table XVII.
Tables XM and XX give aggregate balance sheets and profit and loss accounts. respxtively, of
the main insurance groups.
10. The following symbols have been used in the tables:
placed before the company's name in Tables 111 2nd IV dcnotcs a State-controlled enter-
pnse; when placed after the year denotes a balance sheet date uiher than 31sl December of
the year shawn, or an accounting period oforher than 12 months. Particulan are given in
Annex 111. An asterisk in place of figures indicates a figurc orless than thc minimum unit of
measurement used.
