SKOPJE // FYROM DATE: 11/04/1974 // SUBJECT: FINE ARTS VUK MITEVSKI SAINTS (2005) Un’installazione di quadri pendenti. I quadri esposti alla luce diretta cambiano aspetto. L’installazione è composta dalla distribuzione di grandi quadri che non sono appesi al muro ma che dividono e costruiscono lo spazio dal pavimento al soffitto, da muro a muro. L’installazione crea uno spazio di presenza spirituale immediata. Non riguarda il sentire religioso, quanto piuttosto l’alienazione dal lato spirituale della società contemporanea. Questa installazione ci porta più vicini al mondo abitato dagli essere soprannaturali, gli arcangeli e i santi. Vuk Mitevski mira a ricreare, non per mimesi, la calma dei templi religiosi, la minuscola presenza umana e la grandezza del mondo spirituale. Molti atei e agnostici hanno riconosciuto le qualità tranquillizzanti dei luoghi spirituali e molte persone religiose hanno avvertito la spiritualità dei templi dedicati a un Dio diverso da quello che pregano. Questa installazione porta lo spirituale nello spazio secolare e secolarizza gli spazi spirituali. Come le arti hanno sempre fatto e sempre faranno. SAINTS (2005) The installation of hanging pictures. The pictures exposed to directed light change their appearance. The installation is made by distribution of large pictures that are not hanging on the walls but divide and build the space from the floor to the ceiling, wall to wall. The installation creates space of immediate spiritual presence. It is not about religious feeling, but rather about the alienation from the spiritual side of the contemporary society. This installation brings us closer to the world inhabited by supernatural beings, archangels and saints. Vuk Mitevski aims at recreating, not by mimesis, the calmness of religious temples, the miniscule human presence and greatness of spiritual world. Many atheists and agnostics acknowledged the tranquilizing qualities of spiritual places and many religious persons felt the spirituality of temples devoted to a God who is not the one they worship. This installation brings spiritual into secular space and secularises the spiritual spaces. As the arts always did and will always do. RUDINA XHAFERI PRISHTINE // KOSOVO DATE: 12/08/1978 // SUBJECT: PHOTOGRAPHY I WANT MY STAR (VOGLIO LA MIA STELLA) (2003-2004) Nel progetto I want my star (Voglio la mia stella) l’artista ha tentato di amalgamare in maniera intuitiva l’innocenza infantile, il mito e l’attualità politica. Ogni bambino, quando alza la testa verso il cielo, sceglie la sua stella del destino. Un antico mito balcanico, e perfino universale, dice che quando una persona muore nel cielo scompare una stella. A questo proposito Rudina Xhaferi pensa di affermare l’archetipo dell’uguaglianza, in cui tutti hanno il diritto di avere la loro stella. Oggi gli albanesi chiedono anche loro questo antico diritto: di avere la loro stella nella galassia europea. I WANT MY STAR (VOGLIO LA MIA STELLA) (2003-2004) In the project I want my star I tried in the intuitive manner to complement childish innocence, the myth and political actuality. Every child when he raises his head up to the sky, he chooses his own star of destiny. An ancient Balkanic myth, and even universal, says that when one person dies a star in the sky disappears as well. In this respect Rudina Xhaferi thinks of affirming the archetype of equality where all the people have the right to have their own star. Albanians at present demand as well this ancient right: to have their own star in the European galaxy. 202 visual arts
YOUNÈS RAHMOUN TÉTOUAN // MOROCCO DATE: 04/09/1975 // SUBJECT: PERFORMANCE AND INSTALLATION WAHID (PERFORMANCE E VIDEO) (2003) MAQBARA (INSTALLATION) (2005) La performance Wahid ha luogo durante l’inaugurazione della mostra: l’artista si siede al centro dello spazio su un tessuto nero in direzione della Mecca (est). Indossa una djellaba nera che lo copre scoprendo solo le mani e nel silenzio recita, con voce media, 99 volte e per 99 secondi, la parola "Wahid”. Il video Wahid è un film in bianco e nero che ripropone la performance; è una traccia della presenza dell’artista durante l’esposizione. Sarà proiettato sulla parte bassa di un muro orientato a est. "Wahid" significa uno, il solo e l’unico. Per l’autore, musulmano, significa anche Allah (Dio). Nell’Islam Dio ha 99 nomi. La performance e il video simbolizzano l’apertura ad altre culture e religioni del mondo. Maqbara (cimitero) è un insieme di 99 coni in tessuto bianco illuminati da ampolle installate al loro interno. Ogni 33 coni disegnano una foglia sul suolo, e le tre foglie sono orientate alla Mecca. Questa installazione si ispira alla danza religiosa dei dervisci rotanti ed è un omaggio alle vittime del recente tsunami asiatico. WAHID (PERFORMANCE E VIDEO) (2003) MAQBARA (INSTALLATION) (2005) The Wahid performance takes place during the opening of the exhibition: the artist sits on a black fabric at the centre of the space, facing towards the Mecca (eastwards). He is wearing a black djellaba that covers him completely, leaving out only the hands. Amidst the silence, he repeats the word “Wahid” 99 times in 99 seconds, with an average voice. The Wahid video is a B&W movie which revives the performance: it is an evidence of the artist’s presence during the exhibition. The video will be projected on the lower part of a wall facing eastwards. “Wahid” means one, the sole and the only. To the author, a Muslim, it also means Allah (God). In Islam, God has 99 names. Both the performance and the video symbolize the opening to other cultures and religions of the world. Maqbara (graveyard) is a set of 99 cones in white fabric lit by internal cruets. Each 33 cones trace a leaf on the floor and all three leaves point at the Mecca. This installation draws inspiration from the religious dances of the whirling dervishes and is a tribute to the victims of the recent Asiatic tsunami. INSTANBUL // TURKEY DATE: 16/04/1981 // SUBJECT: FINE ARTS BURCU YAGCIOGLU UNTITLED (2004) La lunghezza della mia opera è molto maggiore che non la sua larghezza perché voglio che, per via della prospettiva, gli spettatori vedano i disegni piccoli quando si avvicinano invece di percepire l’intera composizione. Questo è il punto di vista di chi ha provato la passione. Quando ti allontani dalla composizione, cominci a percepire la rosa formata dai disegni più piccoli. Il punto di vista dal quale si può osservare la rosa è il punto di vista di una persona che riesce a guardare al desiderio proprio o di un’altra persona dall’esterno. Per mostrare questo dilemma dei punti di vista delle persone, rappresentato dai molti disegni interni alla composizione e dalla complessità del quadro in sé, ho usato la rosa, che è associata all’amore e alla passione. Il risultato è che alla fine ho semplicemente riprodotto una rosa, nonostante tutti i miei sforzi per essere originale. UNTITLED (2004) My work is much longer than larger because I want the viewers to see small drawings due to the perspective when they look closer to it instead of perceiving the entire composition. This is the viewpoint of the one who felt the passion. When you step away from the composition, you will start to perceive the rose formed by the small drawings. The standpoint where the rose can be seen is the viewpoint of a person who can manages look at the desire of another person who or himself/herself from outside. In order to show this dilemma of people's viewpoints, as opposed to the many drawings within the composition as well as the complexity of the picture itself. I have used the rose, which is associated with love and passion, and as a result, what I have made is only the picture of a rose, despite all my efforts for being original. 204 visual arts
