Progettare non significa
inventare, bensì scoprire;
è interpretazione sempre
nuova di concetti noti,
è vedere il mondo con occhi
sempre diversi, viverlo in
modo sempre nuovo,
inventarlo ed animarlo con
contenuti inconsueti.
Progettare significa anche
colmare la realtà con un’idea,
con un punto di vista mutato,
diverso.
Design is discovery, not
invention; design is an everchanging
expression of
consolidated ideas, of
continuously varying views
of the world and new ways
of experiencing our
surroundings, of an unusual
creation and animation of its
contents.
Design entails encompassing
reality with an idea, with a
transformed and expanded
point of view.
Svuotare la scena, ridurla ai
suoi elementi essenziali “per
non distrarre” l’osservazione.
Riducendo al grado zero di
ogni vissuto e di ogni
memoria i luoghi, replicando
ai limiti della serialità ,foto
dopo foto, si lasciano aperte
ampie possibilità di abitare
questi luoghi a chi li osserva.
Sono spazi mentali
necessariamente incompleti,
aperti alla possibilità,
condivisibili, ma che in fondo
sono la negazione di ogni
testimonianza, di ogni vera
evasione al di fuori della
nostra immagine mentale.
Baring our surroundings
down to the essential
without “distracting” from
our observation.
Retraction to ground zero of
our lived experience and
memories of our
environment that, replicated
image after image to the
limits of infinity, inspire the
observer with a repeatedly
expanded view of dwelling
potentials.
These mental images must
necessarily be left
incomplete and open to
chance, to be shared but
with an edge of restraint,
withholding all that escapes
individual imagination.
Tutto ci fissa con sguardo
vuoto. E come potrebbe
essere altrimenti, da dove
dovrebbe giungere l’oggetto
d’uso vivo e ben fatto,
quando non v’è più uomo che
sappia cosa sia l’abitare
durevole e che riesca a
rendere calda e solida la
propria casa?
Fixed upon by empty stares.
How could it be otherwise?
How could well-constructed
objects come alive with
feeling if man were to ignore
the value of long-lasting
dwelling spaces and warm
and solid home-making
abilities?
The attempt is to avoid mannerisms, to avoid rationality being overridden by irrationality and
form by informality, gaining a balance where polarity is however not disdained.
This concept of harmony works inversely, there are no divisions and the overall harmonic
vision achieved gives way to poise and silence and to the setting of an elementary and
simple outlook on surroundings, whereby objects may simply be elevated within the worldly
order of things.
Le cose mostrano l’attualità che
è inscritta nella loro materialità.
E, d’altra parte, è proprio la
materialità che indica la loro
attualità.
The objects all express a
sense of novelty inscribed
within the essence of their
materials.
It is thus the essence of the
materials that works to
display the novelty of the
objects.
Il linguaggio formale qui è
razionale, intellettuale, è
linguaggio della ragione.
Le emozioni, la fantasia,
vengono controllate dalla
“ratio”. Questa, a sua volta,
stimola l’immaginazione.
Il rapporto dialettico tra le
due polarità – la ragione e
l’emozione, la “ratio” e la
fantasia, l’idea e la realtà – è
immanente all’atto creativo e
produce di continuo idee,
concetti, spazi, elementi e
forme.
Esso contiene il concetto di
astrazione, il riconoscimento
dell’oggetto nella sua forma
elementare ed il suo
manifestarsi nella fisionomia
più chiara.
Formal communication here
is rational, intellectual.
The language of reason .
Emotions and imagination
are controlled by “ratio”.
Which in turn stimulates
fantasy.
The dialectic relationship
between opposite poles –
reason and emotion, “ratio”
and imagination, idealism
and reality – propels the
creation and transmission of
ideas, concepts, areas,
elements and shapes.
All is contained within a
concept of abstractionism,
the elementary
acknowledgement of the
essence of an object’s
simplicity displayed at its
best.
Il semplice, qui, non è una cosa, così,
semplice-semplice, non è da scambiare per
mera creazione razionale.
Il semplice è una tattica che serve a far
apparire il necessario come esteticamente
pertinente.
Simplifying does not only do away with all
that may not be necessary, it also expresses
an open expansion into all that may be
intentionally multi-purpose and multi-use:
although providing the ductility of expansion,
simple forms significantly encompass any
actual and spatial requirement.
dell’equilibrio.
A table fitting system featuring a highly geometrical concept.
The concept’s originality is both tactile and visual: a veritable combine of
staves with a set width but designed in various lengths.
Straight lines dominate the system although the orthogonal settings cast an
aura of wisdom and poise.
Ogni progetto che non abbia
se stesso come tema
principale è, di fondo, una
banalità. Potrà senz’altro
assolvere a scopi e bisogni
necessari ed anche
soddisfare esigenze
tecnicamente fondate, ma se
al di là della pura funzionalità
non saprà realizzare anche
un’idea, resterà un oggetto
banale.
Il progetto non deve
rappresentare lo specifico
soddisfacimento dei bisogni,
ma, in primo luogo, il
carattere universale del
pensiero.
Any project that is not true to
itself can basically be
considered as being
common. The fulfilment of
simple needs and purposes
or even technical
performances may be
addressed but if no further
creative expression other
than mere functionality is
permeated, the result
remains common.
Projects must therefore not
only cater to the satisfaction
of functional needs but must
primarily encompass the
universality of expressed
thoughts.
