Karen Jamali is an American, Danish-born artist living and working in New York City.
She graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art School of Design in
Copenhagen Denmark in 1991, and have been working as a painter and sculptor and
a photgrapher for the past 25 years. Participating in numerous solo and group
exhibitions throughout the world in museums and gallerys. She has received a
number of honors and awards from the international art community. Her built
works include several permanent pieces and are in more than 600 private
colections. When sculpting she works predominantly in granite, bronze and glass,
celebrating contrasts to carve out delicate figures from stiff and rigid materials. Her
figures are at once graceful, delicate, simple and monumental. She draws on the
human figure as a common language that speaks to, and links all people. Through
the human body she is able to achieve works that evoke the universality of the
human condition. It is a language that is accessible to all regardless of age, culture,
and education. As a result, her figures are at times intentionally impersonal and
anonymous, lacking detailed hands and faces, such that they embody a universal
