Industrial weighing<br />

systems for silos<br />

Global Measurement proposes its solution<br />

to measure the quantity of product contained<br />

within the silos. Its offer icludes load cells,<br />

mounting accessories, weight transmitters<br />

and metering systems specially designed for<br />

dairy farming, agriculture and livestock.<br />

There are many industries where it is necessary<br />

to store large quantities of liquids, powder or<br />

automatic feeding and dosing systems, for which the<br />

measurement must often provide the amount of residual<br />

material, in order to manage inventories and control the<br />

correct execution of production processes. For this reason<br />

it’s necessary to provide for the installation of weighing<br />

systems for silos, and it is vital to ensure their proper<br />

operation and the accuracy of measurements.<br />

Today the wide range of products offered by Global<br />

Measurement includes load cells, mounting accessories,<br />

weight transmitters and metering systems specially<br />

designed to ensure maximum efficiency in dairy farming,<br />

agriculture and livestock. The load cell GM-MEII, entirely<br />

produced by the company and made in stainless steel with<br />

a capacity from 250 to 100,000 kg, has been studied for<br />

more accurate monitoring of quantities of incoming and<br />

outgoing products of tanks and hoppers.<br />

The entire system inclusive of load cell, mounting kit and<br />

viewer/weight transmitter with different communication<br />

protocols, helps to face up with the serious problem of<br />

knowing at every moment the exact quantity of product<br />

contained within the silos. It is especially used in the dairy<br />

industry where controls on the raw materials used are<br />

becoming more stringent.<br />

The installation is carried out in a simplified manner through<br />

external means, without invading the inside of the tank; for<br />

monitoring the weight of the system, the company uses a<br />

number of load cells that depends of the number of feet<br />

of silos (usually 4 or 6), positioned inside a stainless steel<br />

kit that go from housing to the heart of the weighing and in<br />

case of dynamic loads protected from vibration. On each<br />

single cell is carried out a ground work with appropriate<br />

Grazie all’intero sistema, comprensivo di cella, kit di<br />

montaggio e visore/trasmettitore di peso con diversi<br />

protocolli di comunicazione, è possibile far fronte<br />

alla necessità di sapere in ogni istante l’esatto quantitativo<br />

di prodotto contenuto all’interno del silos. Trova<br />

impiego soprattutto in ambito lattiero-caseario,<br />

dove i controlli sulle materie prime utilizzate sono sempre<br />

più stringenti; la certezza della quantità di materiale presente<br />

al momento del ricarico da parte di operatori esterni<br />

consente di evitare eventuali contenziosi, oltre ad avere un<br />

sostanziale risparmio economico.<br />

L’istallazione avviene in maniera semplificata per vie esterne,<br />

senza invadere l’interno del serbatoio. Per il monitoraggio<br />

del peso, il sistema si avvale di un numero di celle<br />

di carico che varia in base al numero dei piedi del silos<br />

(generalmente 4 o 6); sono posizionate all’interno di un kit<br />

in acciaio inox che fa da custodia al cuore della pesatura, e<br />

in caso di carichi dinamici sono protette da antivibranti. Su<br />

tutte le celle viene effettuato un lavoro di messa a terra con<br />

cavo adeguato, e vengono collegate tra loro tramite una<br />

scatola di giunzione. L’intero apparato comunica attraverso<br />

un’interfaccia RS-485 Modbus con un sistema weight<br />

control per la lettura dei dati.<br />

Subito dopo l’impostazione iniziale, lo strumento Global<br />
