e Agios Haralambos; Plaka e Tripiti
offrono visite a musei, a uno splendido
teatro e, soprattutto, alle catacombe di
epoca romana, vero tesoro di quest’isola.
√ TRAVEL TIPS
SOGGIORNO
In ogni
The holiday offers for both islands (hotels, apartments and
rooms) are abundant. Many accommodations also offer
parking and transfer services to/from airport/port. The advice
is always to book well in advance. Once you have chosen
your accommodation and reached the island, all that
remains is to rent a car or a scooter ... and happy holidays!
In any event, please visit our website www.milostravel.com
Pollonia colpisce invece per la sua disposizione
attorno ad una grande baia. Oppure,
da quest’estate è possibile, cambiare
addirittura isola e trasferirsi a Santorini,
altra perla dell’Egeo.
You can get to Milos by daily 40-minute flights from
Athens (www.olympicair.com). Alternatively, there are
ferries linking the port of Athens to Milos (Adamas port)
and to other nearby islands, with the possibility of online
ticket purchase, picking them up directly at the port
(www.aegeanspeedlines.gr). Santorini is connected by
direct flights from Italy, including low cost flights. The
two islands are connected by daily hydrofoil service (trip
time two hours).
Milos, the fifth island of
the Cyclades archipelago,
at about one hundred
and forty kilometers
south of Athens, is
among the most spectacular of the Aegean
in summer, when the Meltemi blows
and the heat is just a gentle caress. Its volcanic
origin has left its “mark” on the landscape,
with its reefs and rocky spurs and
beaches (over seventy), each different
from the others, lapped by the most limpid
of waters. The villages of whitewashed
houses and their balconies full of flowers
are unforgettable postcards, just as is the
hospitality of the islanders, light-hearted
and warm, and with intoxicating scents
and vivid colours. Restaurants and cafés
line up one after the other: you are spoilt
for choice; a concept that also applies to
your stay: from star-hotels to B & Bs and,
why not, to even the romantic mills. We
opt for the latter and tell you of windmills
with superb views of the island which
become magical at sunset, when sea and
coast are tinged with red and orange
(Marketos, Karamitsos, Drouga and Anastasia
are of particular note, all near the
village of Tripiti, with prices varying from
around 80 to 200 euros per night). The
type of accommodation in mills is pretty
much the same, with some variations,
and consists of a ground floor living area,
while the bedrooms and bathroom are on
the upper floor. It isn’t at all primitive, but
something rather secluded and discreet,
a place for living with all the amenities.
And when the romantic vein has played
out, you may want to go exploring the 151
square kilometres of nature and history,
culture and traditions, that fascinate even
the most sophisticated tourists. There is
Adamas that enchants with its Agia Triada
and Agios Haralambos churches; Pla-
ka and Tripiti offer visits to museums, a
magnificent theatre and, especially, the
catacombs of the Roman period, a true
treasure of this island. Pollonia, instead,
appeals to us for its positioning around
a large bay. Or, as of this summer, it will
also be possible to change islands and
move on to Santorini, another pearl of
the Aegean. The two islands are connected
by daily hydrofoil that will take you
from one to another in a few hours with
the wind in your hair. The two islands are
quite similar, at least with regard to their
landscape, but are different by vocation:
the first is devoted to relaxation, whereas
the second is more effervescent, where
you live the sea, especially at night, thanks
to its many clubs, while during the day
you can be tempted by frenetic shopping.
What they do have in common is excellent
food, which, as usual, is enjoyed in restaurants
where fresh fish is the absolute star.
