MARIA
The success story that is the »Maria« design began in 1916. The
service was named after the wife of company founder Philipp
Rosenthal; he married Maria, 35 years his junior, in 1916.
“Maria” is synonymous with the history of porcelain and dining
culture. Supposedly inspired by the design of a silver tea service,
its polygonal design, with distinctive edged relief work in the
form of a fruit garland, became the most extensive of
Rosenthal’s services. As early as 1939, it comprised over 170
different items from bone dishes to knife rests and decorative
stoppers. Even today, over 80 different individual items are
available.
Over 200 patterns have adorned »Maria« over almost 100
years, of which four are available within the collection today:
»Brombeere«, »Sommerstrauß«, »Rosenkante blau« and »St.
Germain« continue to inspire new table settings for countless
occasions. The perfect union of tradition and modernity.
»Maria« has enjoyed enduring popularity over the decades, and
numbers among the most extensive and best-selling crockery
designs of all time.
Der Siegeszug der Form »Maria« begann im Jahr 1916. Benannt
wurde das Service nach der Frau des Firmengründers
Philipp Rosenthal, der die 35 Jahre jüngere Maria 1916 ehelichte.
»Maria« steht für Porzellangeschichte und Tischkultur.
Vermutlich als Nachbildung eines silbernen Teeservices
entstanden, wurde diese polygonale Geschirrform mit dem
charakteristischen Kantenrelief in Form einer Früchtegirlande
zum umfangreichsten Rosenthal-Service. Schon 1939 gab es
über 170 verschiedene Artikel, von der Grätenschale, über
Messerbänkchen bis hin zum Zierkorken. Noch heute sind
mehr als 80 verschiedene Einzelteile erhältlich.
Gut 200 Dekore auf »Maria« wurden in fast 100 Jahren entworfen,
von denen heute noch vier in der Kollektion sind:
»Brombeere«, »Sommerstrauß«, »Rosenkante blau« und
»St. Germain« ermöglichen immer wieder neue Tischinszenierungen
für viele Gelegenheiten. Die perfekte Verbindung
von Tradition und Moderne.
Über Jahrzehnte hinweg erfreut sich »Maria« großer Beliebtheit
und gehört zu den umfangreichsten und meistverkauften
Geschirrformen aller Zeiten.
