The core of the exchanger is a fully welded plate pack enclosed in a strong shell structure, which eliminates the Heat Exchange Plate and Shell Exchanger Combines Features Source: Vahterus need for gaskets. Due to its advanced construction, the PSHE has numerous advantages over traditional heat exchangers, Vahterus says. It is compact and low weight, and since it has no gaskets, it can withstand higher pressure and temperatures than conventional plate and frame heat exchangers, the company explains. The structural properties of Vahterus PSHE also make it durable, easy to maintain and energy efficient. Heat transfer in a plate heat exchanger is a combination of conduction and convection. Convection is the dominant mechanism, thus it is important to improve the convective forces. The convective heat transfer’s coefficient is affected by the fluid properties and the geometry of the heat-exchanger surface. Fluids are typically defined by the process, but the heat-exchanger type and structure can be engineered for the best heat transfer.
