KENT MACPHERSON is owner of Quarter-Sawn Flooring LLC, located in Martinsville, IN. Quarter-Sawn Flooring manufactures engineered Hardwood flooring. The company purchases over 100,000 board feet per year of Hardwood lumber and logs, including Oak, Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Hickory and Sycamore (FAS and Select, any thickness, rough). MacPherson graduated from Bloomington High School North, Bloomington, IN, in 1974 and Indiana University School of Business, Bloomington, in 1982. He started in the forest products industry in the 1970’s as a woodworker. MacPherson has been owner of Quarter-Sawn Flooring for eight years, since the company was formed, and as owner he handles various aspects of the company, including purchasing and day-to-day operations. The company is a member of the National Wood Flooring Association and in 2005 was involved in the manufacture and installation of a floor which won an NWFA Wood Floor of the Year award. MacPherson’s favorite pastimes include cycling, billiards and chess. He has been married to Rita for 15 years and the couple has one son, two daughters and two granddaughters. Of these only Thailand and Indonesia did not increase in value this year so far. Globally the three leading lumber species this year are Red Oak up 60% in value, White Oak up 29% and Tulipwood (Yellow Poplar) up 24%. Exports of these species approximately reflect their growing volumes in the Hardwood forest and their sustainability.
