SAINT-GEORGES, QC—Eric Michaud, senior vice-president/sales for BID Group, recently announced the appointment of Peter McCarty as sales manager for PHL Inc., a subsidiary company of Comact and BID Group. “Peter brings a lot of experience to PHL with 20 years of experience in the sawmilling industry,” Michaud explained. “He started out as a machine designer, has installed and Peter McCarty started up machinery, worked in a sawmill maintenance department, been a sales representative and a sales manager before joining the PHL Comact BID Group team. His wide range of experience will benefit our customers from initial project discussions all the way through installation and start up. PHL has been fabricating machinery for the Hardwood and softwood industry since 1975 specializing in trimmer sorter systems for both green mills and planer mills, optimized board and gang edgers, resaw systems and primary breakdown lines. NAPPANEE, IN—Quality Hardwood Sales LLC, a manufacturer of Hardwood dimension products, recently announced it would expand operations and create up to 25 new jobs by 2016. According to sources all production will be moved in-house. The company also plans to add 50,000 square feet to its current facility for domestic and foreign inventory, which will allow it to utilize a total of 128,000 square feet of operational space by April 2015. Offering cut-to-size products, component parts and UV finished products, as part of its growth, the company will expand its sales territory, accommodate just-in-time inventory requirements and install new precision equipment. The increase in space will allow the Nappanee-based company to hire new employees to assist in the manufacture of Hardwood interior products for the RV industry and construct component parts for kitchen cabinets, furniture and other custom orders. Currently the company has 85 employees, and will begin hiring machine operators, off bearing associates and forklift drivers by April 2015. Arnold has worked at Missouri Walnut for nine years, with six spent in his current position handling domestic sales to the Eastern half of the U.S. Arnold graduated from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, MO, in Steve Arnold 1980. His first position in the forest products industry was in 1978 when he worked stacking lumber on the green chain at Chillicothe Lumber Company, a family sawmill. Other past positions within the industry include kiln operator, lumber inspector and log and lumber buyer. In his spare time Arnold enjoys golf and camping. He is married to Jan and the couple has two sons and a daughter. Missouri Walnut is a sawmill manufacturing kiln-dried Walnut (4/4 through 12/4. The company also offers width sorts four-inch to eight-inch and nine-inch and wider in both No. 1 Common and FAS) and FEQ Burmese Teak (4/4 and 8/4 only). Yearly production volumes are approximately 10 million board feet. Products are offered to both domestic and international markets.
