GAŖEZERA ZIŅAS - Garezers

Dear friends of Garezers,We are enjoying the summer! The weather has beenideal. All of our programs have excellent enrollment,including a solid 108 students at GVV.I hate to keep talking about infrastructure issues, butthis summer has been a particularly bad one formaintenance. We’ve replaced at least 10 water heatersand have had major repairs on electrical, water andphone lines, septic and much more. As always, we try towork with the Board to plan major repairs pro-actively,but unfortunately that doesn’t always work out. Manythanks to Karlis and Anda Vizulis, whose generousdonation covered the Kriksi camp bathroom remodel.These types of donations are not particularlyglamorous, but they certainly improve the quality of lifefor our kids.Although we are not hosting any major productions thissummer, we have had several fantastic events already,with more to come. For Jāņi we were down at thebeach, with the traditional bonfire, beer, cheese andsinging. I heard only positive reviews and requests forthe same next year. Thanks to Sandra Robeznieks,Gunars Kancs, Raimonds Matisons and everyone elsewho helped make Jāņi such a success.Those of us who could not travel to Latvia still had theopportunity to „participate” in the Song Festival. Thanksto the efforts of Pauls Berkolds and Artis Inka, the finalconcert was streamed live at GVV and everyone couldsing along. This was made possible by the high-speedfiber optic internet that was installed with support fromFriends of Garezers.For the first time that I know of, Garezers wastransformed into an outdoor movie theater. Once again,thanks to Sandra Robeznieks, Artis Inka and GunarsKancs, who organized a well-attended screening of„Dream Team 1935” at Dziesmu Leja, complete withpopcorn.Many more interesting events are coming up. As thisissue goes to print, we are preparing for the MuseumNight at GVV Talent Show, and after that , volleyballweekend and GVV graduation. During the Labor Daylong weekend we will have golf and volleyballtournaments.
