Moving on in 2009
Happy New Year to all!
The year 2009 looks very promising for the DBAV
aswell as for our Dutch “Nederlandse vereniging”.
The first traditional event of the year, the new years
borrel, drinks at our new consul generals’ house at
BP Compound was a great success. Many thanks for
that Jos & Heleen!
Our Dutch calendar is more than full between now
and summer and I hope to see all of you there.
Please refer to our site: www.dbav.net for the latest
updates of the calendar.
The topic for this Double Dutch is the Transport
industry, one of the strongest sectors of the Netherlands. Writing this
foreword in the plane on my way back from Singapore to HCMC I realize:
every day, one way or another, we depend on transport. For transporting
ourselves but also our goods and it is not always as easy as it seems.
One increasingly important aspect of transport is the impact it has on
the environment. Planes, trucks, ships but also motorbikes are important
polluters and reducing this to a minimum is one of the challenges in this
industry. The Dutch expertise in the Transport and Distribution sector
can help Vietnam not only with improving this sector from an economic
perspective but can also help in reducing the emission of Co2.
The same principles apply for the overcrowded roads of HCMC. All the
traffic jams do not only have impact on the economy but also make
the city more polluted as it is already. With this, I just want to give an
important argument, other than an economic one, to emphasize why it is
important that Dutch companies bring their expertise to Vietnam.
I hope you will enjoy reading about it and hope to see you soon at one of
our events.
