SOCIALE SCULPTUUR
Ropes zijn buiten proportionele
touwen van 6 en 12 meter lengte,
die je kan gebruiken als modulaire
zit-, lounge-, vergader- of
speelobjecten. En dit zowel voor
gebruik thuis als in openbare
ruimtes, binnen en buiten.
Rope kan op zoveel manieren
gebruikt worden als je fantasie
je toelaat. Rope is een sociale
sculptuur: het wordt iets omdat jij
er iets mee doet.
Door een van de oudste uitvindingen
die bestaat (een touw) te vergroten,
heeft Atelier Ief Spincemaille
een eenvoudig maar veelzijdig
designobject gecreëerd.
SOCIAL SCULPTURE
Rope 6M. and 12M. can be used as
modular seating, lounge, meeting
or play object, both for use in
private and public spaces, inside
and outside.Rope can be used in
as many ways as your imagination
tells you.
Rope is asocial sculpture: it
becomes something because you
imagine and do something with
it. By enlarging one of the oldest
inventions in existence (a rope),
Atelier Ief Spincemaille has created
a simple but versatile design
object. With Rope 6M and 12M.,
seating and sitting have been
reinvented.

SOCIALE MEDIA
Geen sociale sculptuur zonder
sociale media. Via een digitaal
platform kunnen gebruikers zelf
de pen ter hand kunnen nemen en
verhalen en foto’s posten in naam
van Rope. Ze schrijven zo hun 6
of 12 meter lange Ropes tot leven,
en laten deze buitenproportionele
touwen iets vertellen over hun
omgeving, hun gebruikers, … Elke
unieke Rope zal zo een eigen archief
van verhalen opbouwen. Via het
digitale platform kan je zo niet enkel
de geschiedenis van 1 welbepaalde
Rope ontdekken, maar aan de hand
van #hashtags ook verschillende
verhalen van verschillende Ropes
opzoeken.
SOCIAL MEDIA
No social sculpture without social
media. Via a digital platform
users can pick up their own pen
and post stories and photos on
behalf of Rope. They bring their
6 or 12 meter long Ropes to life,
and let these disproportionate
ropes tell something about their
environment, their users, ... Each
unique Rope will build up its own
archive of stories. Via the digital
platform you can not only discover
the history of 1 specific Rope, but
also look up different stories from
different Ropes based on topics
based on #hashtags.
VLECHT JE EIGEN ROPE
Met een mobiele vlechtinstallatie
kan je samen met je community je
eigen Rope vlechten. Zo brengt je
op een fijne manier mensen samen
en zijn we in staat om de technieken
en ideeën achter dit kunstwerk te
delen.

You can also use our mobile braiding
installation to braid your own Rope
12 M. with us. In this way you
bring people together in a pleasant
way and we are able to share the
techniques and ideas behind this
artwork very easily.

ROPE 6M.: MULTIPLES
Voor de Rope 6M. Multiples serie
werkte Atelier Ief Spincemaille
samen met textielontwerper Esther
van Schuylenbergh aan vier unieke
ontwerpen. Deze ontwerpen worden
in beperkte oplage geproduceerd,
met de hand geweven volgens een
techniek die door Spincemaille is
ontwikkeld op basis van traditionele
weefkunst, en volledig in België
gemaakt. De vier multiples kregen
titels die verwijzen naar mensen die
belangrijk waren tijdens de reizen
van Rope 60M.
ROPE 6M .: MULTIPLES
For the Rope 6M. Multiples
series, Atelier Ief Spincemaille
collaborated with textile designer
Esther van Schuylenbergh on four
unique designs. These designs are
produced in limited numbers, woven
by hand according to a technique
developed by Spincemaille based
on traditional weaving, and made
entirely in Belgium. The four
multiples were given titles that
refer to people who were important
during Rope 60M’s travels in
Guangzhou, Firenze, Ostend and
Antwerp.
ECOLOGISCH
De buitenmantel is gemaakt van
polypropyleen banden. Als de
buitenmantel vuil of versleten is
halen wij de webbing uit elkaar,
draaien ze om en vlechten Rope
opnieuw. Zo heb je een volledig
nieuwe Rope. Als deze na jaren
gebruik terug versleten zijn
worden de banden door ons terug
genomen, wordt er granulaat van
gemaakt en van dit granulaat
nieuw garen. De webbing is
volledig circulair.
ECOLOGICAL
The outer jacket is made of
polypropylene straps. When the
outer jacket is dirty or worn out,
we take the webbing apart, turn
them around and braid Rope
again. So you have a completely
new Rope. When they are worn
out again after years of use, we
take the webbing back, make
granulate out of them and from
this granulate we make new yarn
to weave the webbing.

EEN REIZENDE ROPE VAN 60
METER LANG
In 2017 creëerde Ief Spincemaille
het kunstwerk Rope: een blauw
touw van 60 meter lang en
30 cm breed. Omdat Rope
disproportioneel groot gemaakt
is, heeft het zijn functie van touw
verloren. Atelier Ief Spincemaille
reist met Rope de wereld rond
op zoek naar nieuwe betekenis
voor dit object. En dit door
het tijdelijk te verbinden met
een gemeenschap, plaats of
gebeurtenis. Tijdens deze reizen
schrijft Rope een journaal en
vertelt ons zo iets over de mensen
en dingen vanuit het perspectief
van een touw dat te groot is voor
deze wereld. Zo ontstaan er overal
ter wereld waar Rope 60 aankomt,
sociale contacten en interactie
tussen mensen.
A TRAVELLING ROPE OF 60
METERS LONG
In 2017, Ief Spincemaille created
the artwork Rope: a blue rope
60 meters long and 30 cm
wide. Because Rope is made
disproportionately large, it has
lost its function as a rope. Atelier
Ief Spincemaille travels with Rope
around the world in search of
new meaning for this object. And
this by temporarily connecting it
to a community, place or event.
During these journeys Rope writes
a journal and tells us something
about the people and things from
the perspective of a rope that is
too big for this world. In this way,
all over the world where Rope
60 arrives, social contacts and
interaction between people are
created.
