mens from astutus. However, as the difference in the aedeagus
seems to be constant, I have found it1 appropriate to give the
Norwegian form a nama
Oxypoda (Podoxya) Hansseni n. sp. Allied to Skalitzkyi
Bernh. in having the third joint of the antennae shorter than the
second, EL10 joints st,~ongly transverse, penultimate joint of the
maxillary palpi not elongate, thorax 1l,lz times as broad as long,
not sinuate at base, first joint of the posterior tami scarcely longer
than the two following joints, hind body plainly narrowed towards
apex, but differing from it in being much smaller, pubescence
decumbent, head and thorax much finer punctured, shining, antennae
less thickened, thorax with longitudinzil' depression absent
or very obsolete, elytra longer, hind body somewhat1 more
sparingly and much more coarsely punctured, male with ventral
plate of seventh segment of hind body prolonged intco a somewhat
obtuse angle.
L.: 1.c2.0 mm.
The new species, which I dedicate to my friend Mr. H. K.
Hanssen, is knmown from the f,ollowing Norwegian localities:
AK 11: Asker (H. K. Hanssen), 13: Ullern (Strand), Rsa
(Strand); On37: Kirkestuen (Strand), Vhlisjs (Strand).
It has been taken in the months from February to October
(except May and September)$ in the early spring in dead leaves
and pine-needles, later under bark of firs and on the wing.
I'rypodendron piceum n. sp. In trunks of Picea excelsa I
have taken in April, May and October at AK 13: Rsa, in the im-
mediate vicinity of Oslo, a Trypodendron which seems to be new.
It was partly taken together with lineatum Ol., which it resembles
much in form and structure, only being a little larger, with sides
of thorax slightly more rounded, elytra somewhati longer and
somewhat more distinctly striated and forehead of male more
deeply excavated. In colour it is quite different, being much
darker, thorax black, generally with an obsolete brownish patch
at middle of base, elytra more brownish with thc? longitudinal
dark bands less pronounced, middle band very obsolete, reduced
or absent, femora black, tibiae brown, tarsi lighter.
The aedeagus (treated with oil of cloves) of piceum and line-
atum is shown in fig. 6 and 7. In side view the penis of piceum
is considerably broader than the organ of lineatum.
