Um sonho grande e dispendioso Assim nasceu o projeto de construção de uma sede que abrigasse toda a administração, operação e manutenção das <strong>empresa</strong>s. Seu Jelson comprou uma área de 130 mil metros quadrados, bastante acidentada, no bairro da Figueira, em Niterói. Era preciso desmatar e empreender uma operação de terraplanagem que talvez inviabilizasse a realização do sonho, pelo custo elevado. Mas era tempo de “milagre econômico”, abrir estradas, e a sorte não deixaria seu Jelson na mão. O desmate foi feito com equipamento da casa. Usando corrente, o guincho arrastava o que era cortado até o caminhão. Mas, e todo aquele saibro que precisava sair para o prédio subir? Por uma feliz coincidência, em janeiro de 1969, começara a sair do papel o projeto idealizado pelo então Ministro dos Transportes, Mario Andreazza, de uma ponte que cruzaria a Baía de Guanabara, fazendo a ligação entre as cidades de Niterói e Rio de Janeiro, poupando os motoristas de uma viagem de 100 quilômetros, passando por Magé. Porém, o consórcio de construtoras responsável pela obra era obrigado a buscar terra em local muito distante, para proceder ao aterramento das áreas de cabeceira da ponte, ofi cialmente batizada de Presidente Costa e Silva. Era um problema! Até que, numa pesquisa pelo entorno, descobriu que havia saibro de ótima qualidade, perfeito para o aterro, numa área bem próxima. E foi assim que seu Jelson não só economizou com tratores e caminhões, como ainda lucrou com a venda do material. Dia e noite caminhões e mais caminhões, devidamente registrados, saíam com o saibro. E a nova sede da <strong>1001</strong> pôde, então, começar a subir. Levantada a estrutura, foi oferecido um grande churrasco para todos os funcionários e outros tantos convidados. Em 1979, o complexo administrativo da <strong>1001</strong> foi inaugurado com pompa, circunstância e muita festa. 59
