The study aim at to analyze the approach of the theme traverse health for the physical<br />
education teachers in the 4th cycle of basic education teaching that works nearby Méier,<br />
in Rio de Janeiro. It is a qualitative study of descriptive stamp. Ten interviews were<br />
accomplished, four with women teachers and six with men teachers, thus the interview<br />
was based on traverse health and of the national politics of the promotion of health,<br />
looking for to locate its uses in the interviewees’ school context. For the development<br />
of the strategies adopted by teachers in the application of the traverse theme in their<br />
physical education classes, the thematic analysis it was used, presented as one of the<br />
techniques of content analysis (BARDIN, 1977; FRANCO, 2003). For the discussion of data,<br />
the approach adopted was promotion of health in the optics of Dejours (1986), Minayo et<br />
al. (2000), Buss (2000), Briceño-León (2000), Da Ros (2006), Darido and Rangel (2005) and<br />
Paim (1997). The teachers are aware of the importance of discussion about traverse health<br />
inside of the school, seeking benefits to the students. So they declare to work the theme<br />
somehow in your classes. It is possible to verify that the strategies are still ruled just in the<br />
prevention of diseases, neglecting the paper of the promotion of the health that orientates<br />
PCN, even if this is not the most appropriate on the relationship of State supplying of the<br />
basic needs of population. The way as the teachers see the paper of the school physical<br />
education in the perspective of the promotion of health it can be related to their academic<br />
parameters because it is, in majority, centered in a fragmented education that considers<br />
only the biological segment. This fact can, also remit to what those professionals are not<br />
acquainting to the social and academic transformations, occasioned by the paradigm crisis<br />
that we are passing thru.<br />
