Located in the Alto Alentejo, between Elvas, Borba<br />

It is the hometown of the famous and passionate poetess<br />
Florbela Espanca and a land of churches, monasteries, chapels,<br />
hermitages and convents. It is also internationally known for<br />
the abun<strong>da</strong>nt marble quarries in the region. <strong>In</strong> 1461, it became<br />
part of the Dukedom of Bragança, and in 1502, begun the<br />
construction of the “Paço Ducal” (Ducal Palace), the most<br />
emblematic monument of <strong>Vila</strong> <strong>Viçosa</strong>.<br />
