The Mellitus Diabetes is a chronic disturbance that has as a characteristic the commitment of
glucose metabolism and other chemicals that produce energy, as well as the later development
of vascular complications (which affects the blood vessels of short and large dimensions) and
neuro-disease. This study is exploratory, within qualitative and quantitative approach and it is
guided by the theoretical referential of the theory of the absence in relation to self-care. We
investigated the knowledge of patients with Mellitus Diabetes in relation to self-feet care, we
observed the act of those people when caring their feet, and also identified the existence of
negative factors to accomplish the practice of self-feet care. The sample was made up with 40
patients suffering from diabetes, those people accepted to participate of this study, after
knowing the rules of ethical principles of a research involving human beings. The research
was developed at Lauro Wanderley University Hospital, inside the Federal University of
Paraiba state. The data were analyzed quantitatively. They showed a significant level of
absence in relation to knowledge about adequate shoes to wear, the correct shape to cut the
nails, the correct tool to cut them and the importance of self-exam. The data also showed the
absence of the use of the adjusted shoes for diabetic people. The people showed an excellent
behavior of care to clean and inspect the shoes before wear them. The absence of self-care
were in relation to cut the nails in round shape and the use of tools to cut them such as
scissors with tip, pliers, nail cutter and penknife, these items cause damage when caring the
feet. A great number of patients did not identify the importance of feet self – exam but it had
an excellent result during the practice. In relation to the negative factors to practice the feet
self-care the data revealed high indices where the economic factors and physical problems had
a special detached. This present study displays the necessity to follow the ill people with
Mellitus Diabetes, to develop educative programs to sensitize the ill people with MD and
health professionals who must act in a way to prevent the diabetics feet problems. The
prevention of problems depend exactly of the information received, We need to sensitize the
