ABSTRACTThe proposal of this study was to understand, throughphenomenological analysis, the feelings and experiences of the leprous withregard to his/her illness.The inquiry had the objective to evidence the meaning of leprosy inthe life of patients, the repercussions of the illness on the intra and interpersonalrelations, the elaboration life projects, the implications in their work, theperceptions of the different phases in the management and the feelings implied inthis process.This study was carried out in the period from December 1998 untilDecember 1999, in the city of Porto Alegre-RS. The locus of the study was theSanitary Dermatology Clinic of Rio Grande do Sul's Health and EnvironmentSecretariat.
