More than a mere presentation, the debut of Racing for the Planet, the new boat of the

Mirpuri Fpoundation for The COcean Race, was a great party with more than 300 attendees

the italian experts of Carboni, another company

of trusted partners with many years

of experience in high level competition.

The electronics and wiring were replaced

and testes by the specialist of the reputed

company Diverse Performance Systems,

before the mast was removed to evolve into

a state-of-the-art solution by Trimarine in

collaboration with the engineers of Rig Pro

(Southern Spars), the manufacturers of the

original mast of the vessel.

Later, with all the technical work carried

out, the hull, the deck and the keel were

entirely repainted with the colours of the

Mirpuri Foundation - and this way a new

vessel was born. At the paint shop, after the

previous coats of paint had been completely

removed, all surfaces had to receive primary

painting, in preparation for the final touch.

This was a particularly complex task, given

the requirements of the graphic design of

the Mirpuri Foundation, that even led to

the use of customised metallic colours of

AkzoNobel, and several soft combinations

of silver, grey, black, blue and green, with

various layers of transparent varnish having

to be applied over the paint to seal the

graphics and protect the elaborate design.

For this complex task, Trimarine resorted

to a highly trusted professional team with

whom they have been working for three

decades, since the II Moro di Venea of

the America’s Cup challenge in the 1990s.

IT should be recalled that The Ocean

Race will depart from Alicante, Spain in

the fall of 2021 and will finish in Europe

in the summer of 2022. There will be nine

stops in harbours, already confirmed the

stops in Alicante, Arhus, Hague, Cape

Verde, Genoa and Itajaí.

Since 1973, The Ocean Race has built

the ultimate test for a team and provided

a unique human adventure. Over four

decades, has fascinated some of the best

sailors in an almost mythical way and has

been the ultimate field test for the legends

of the sport.

The Ocean Race is frequently described as

the longest and hardest professional sports

event in the world, the toughest challenge

of team sailing and one of the three biggest

sporting events of the planet, along with the

Olympic Games and the America’s Cup.

The Ocean Race can even be considered

an obsession, and many of the best sailors

devoted years, in some cases decades, to

try to win this race.
