If in the interviews there are only some differences between the different family members they say there is no family tie and theyreject the case. They apply this strict policy above all in Somalian cases. So the simple biological tie is not enough anymore. There are also cases in which really small children are being interviewed. Themain scope is to reject the applications. The Dutch government called the 80% that cases were rejected very succesful. The percentage can be higher due to the fact that most refugees do first apply for an advice to safeguard the three months requisite(the application should be done within three months after the date of issue of the asylum permit for the alien in the Netherlands,so that the more favourable conditios are applicable). The fact is they are almost all rejected due to the fact that in this adviceprocedure no investigation (interview, DNA) will be done. For that a application at the embassy must be done by the familymember.I hope the information is helpfull for you. If you have more questiosn let me know.Best regards,[...]Senior consulent KenniscentrumEn intressant passage är följande.Children staying behindA Somali woman ’Shamsa’ has been granted asylum in the Netherlands. She wants to be reunited with her fosterchildren who are left behind in the country of origin. The children A, B en C (11, 12 and 13 years old) are thebiological children of her brother, but all their lives they lived with their father and Shamsa in one household. Theirbiological mother stayed also there for some time. She suffered from psychological problems and she commitedsuicide. In 2008 the family got robbed at home by six men. Shamsa and her sister were raped by the attackers. Thebrother of Shamsa, the biological father of the children, got killed. The children were hiding underneath the bedwhereupon the rape occured. After Shamsa received her asylum permit in the Netherlands, the children went with their grandmother to theDutch embassy in Sudan to apply for family reunification with their aunt. The children wandered around the Dutchembassy. The application for family reunification of the children was rejected, because the family relationship wasnot found to be likely. The conversation with the children were interpreted by two interpreters; one was interpretingfrom English to Arabic and the other interpreted from Arabic to standard Somali. The interview was very confusingfor these children. The children found it difficult to talk about the murder of their father and coulld not talk about the varioustraumatic events. The Dutch government thought this was implausible. In the decision the government did nottake into account the young age of these children, the traumatic nature of the attack, the general conditions of warin Somalia and the following interacting events: the loss of their mother, the journey to the Dutch embassy, theillness of their grandmother and the terrible living conditions in Khartoum.
