were also several paintings of the sacred relic arranged
around the interior walls of the building. I was given the
following explanation by Sister Raphael Mikhail: We compare
Mary to a living Ark. Mary was the mother of Jesus,
who was the master of the Law and of the Covenant. The
tablets of stone with the Ten Commandments of the Law
were placed inside the Ark by Moses; so also God placed
Jesus in the womb of Mary. So she is the living Ark.”
