Prof. Dr. Murat Ali DULUPÇUCraftsmen and tradesmen are undoubtedly the most important actors in urbantrade. Tradesmen and craftsmen sector, are of great importance both for the economicaland social aspects for our country especially when their numerical size is considered. Asthere are not enough appropriate analysis about sectoral and regional characteristics ofthese businesses, some diffuculties are experienced for developing future policies andprograms.In this study, the national and regional problems of local tradesmen wereinvestigated. In addition, the relations of these businesses with the local economy weredetermined. These relations were studied for different aspects including suppliers,customers and public institutions and organizations. Questionnaire was selected as themost appropriate method for the data collection.As a result, the food service sector and micro-sized enterprises localised in thecity center of Isparta is affected from both the local and national economical problems.Customers of this sector are mostly students. The determinations of sector owners andthe customers do not match with each other for the quality of the service. İt is impossibleto say that there are strong relations with the local economic actors such as publicinstitutions and organizations. There are strong relations only with the suppliers. Fordeveloping future policies and programs, applying these kinds of investigations for allthe sectors should be considered.Key Words: Tradesmen and Craftsmen, Micro-sized Enterprises, Local Development,Entrepreneurship, Isparta Economy
