Fr. Rafo Kalinić was born in Prugovo on 6 October 1910.
He is a minister, a Franciscan of the Franciscan Province of
the Holy Redeemer in Dalmatia. He worked as a teacher at the
Franciscan Classical Gymnasium in Sinj. After telling the Germans
not to kill just and innocent people, they threw him alive
into the burning house of Ivan Malbaša in Brnaze near Sinj on
24 September 1943 where he was completely burned. He did a
lot of good during his lifetime.
In the book "Fr. Rafo’s Little Flowers and Thorns", I briefly
recorded the events from his life in 154 periods. "Little Flowers"
of good can be found. Written statements provided by cardinals,
archbishops, bishops, provincials, ministers, nuns and believers,
many of whom known him, confirm his love for God and
fellow man. They are a blessing for anyone who wishes to be
closer to God.
He lived in hard times before and during World War 2, so
some of the events and statements about him were either forgotten
or not recorded due to the difficult circumstances at the
time.
Fr. Rafo's thought of eternity was constantly present in his
soul. He faced suffering and the death of Christ on a daily basis.
Enlightened by mercy, he rose above the earthly life. He found
the right answers to all fundamental questions in his ministerial
Franciscan calling. Guided by the mercy of God, he completely
surrendered to the hands of God. The loved the Eucharist, a
