RTG snímky z archivu Ambulantního centra pro vady pohybového aparátu s.r.o., Olšanská 7, Praha 3The major radiographic features are platyspondyly with characteristic shape (wedging)of the vertebral bodies, dysplastic metaphyseal involvement and retarded bone age.All these features are not present at birth but develop in the first few years of life. Theydisappear – apart from platyspondyly – in adulthood. Therefore the diagnosis of SMD,Kozlowski type cannot be established in adulthood. It can be suspected in adults.Differential diagnosisThe diagnosis is easy in our experience when we have sufficient radiographic documentation.Similar spinal changes might be present in brachyrhachia and specifically, metatropicdysplasia. The brachyrhachia is a SMD, too, but it has different pattern of distributionof the spinal, metaphyseal and carpo/tarsal changes. Metatropic dysplasia is a spondylo-epi--metaphyseal dysplasia (SEMD) and the epiphyses are also affected.POHYBOVÉ ÚSTROJÍ, ročník 18, 2011, č. 1+2 11
