Local authors will share theirexperiences of writing and publishing in Somaliland with authors who have publishedabroad.17:00 - 18:00: Djibouti Arts: Cabdalla Xaaji Cismaan, Canab GuleedAuthor Cabdalla Xaaji Cismaan will present his new book Waayo Arag (Experience),1984-2012, based on the series of radioprogrammes in Radio Djibouti which focus onSomali indigenous culture and traditional laws. Thiswill be followed by a recital by Canab Guuleed, who will read excerpts from her poetry.The history of Cilmi Boodhari will be read in a poetic form by three Djiboutian artistsaccompanied by a musical ensemble composed of Ayuub Ciid (singer), Xasan Cusleeye(musician) and Cabbaas (narrator), Mahado Ahmed Maydhane (vocalist) and Suge(poet).18:30 - 19:30 In conversation with Michela Wrong19:30- 20:30: Sheeko iyo Shaahid: Competition Award CeremonyThis short story competition is intended to inspire the youth to write and publish their work, but also toencourage the next generation of writers to develop their critical thinking, composition and storytelling skills.The participants will be expected to present original stories, and the winners will be awarded their prizes bythe writers Nadifa Mahamed and John Lee Anderson.20:30-21:30: Sooyaal - Poetry nightSooyaal Poetry night: renowned and upcoming poets will share the platform for poetry recital nightSomali Week Festival16 to 27 October 2014Oxford House, LondonImagination is the theme of the year!17
