Chicks and Strawberries was made in the early summer of 1979,
and is a perfect example of careful colour selection and Yu’s
typical pictorial structure. By putting two tiny subjects, chicks and
strawberries, at the top, the lower part of the painting is lightly
coloured in green. This structure forms a balance in visual elements,
creating harmony in the whole artwork. The interaction of the chicks
is depicted, as if they are discussing the flowers and the fruits. From
the different forms of flowers, one can see the artist's immense effort
on objects’ depiction, which echoes with his ideology of painting
objects through close observation.
