RAN In-ting (Taiwanese, 1903 - 1979)<br />
Born in Yilan, Taiwan. Ran studied watercolor<br />
painting from his mentor, Ishikawa Kinichiro.<br />
Then he went to Japan and had been invited to<br />
many exhibitions in Tokyo and Taiwan. In 1929,<br />
he was named honorary member of the British<br />
Royal Watercolor Association and was invited as a<br />
guest lecturer in Europe, North America and Asia.<br />
He then became the editor of Taiwan Pictorial<br />
Magazine and Good Harvest Magazine. Ran was<br />
selected as one of the top ten watercolor artist<br />
in the world by the critics in 1971. He served as<br />
president of China Television System in 1973 and<br />
passed away in 1979. Ran specialized in portraying<br />
the local people's life and combining the technique<br />
of <strong>Chinese</strong> Calligraphy and watercolor together to<br />
achieve his unique expression of pictorial space.<br />
SUN Yunsheng (<strong>Chinese</strong>, 1918 - 2000)<br />
Born in Hebei Ninghe, Sun Yunsheng was regarded<br />
as the most distinguished apprentice of CHANG<br />
Da-chien. Since 1936, he followed Chang and<br />
had the most comprehensive training in terms of<br />
landscape, characters, flowers and birds paintings.<br />
Since the age of 9, Sun practiced art with his<br />
uncle, learning ancient calligraphy of WANG Xizhi,<br />
OUYANG Xiu, SU Shi, etc., later became apprentice<br />
of WANG Xuetao, QIN Zhonglin and WU Peiheng.<br />
TAI Jing-nong (Taiwanese, 1902 - 1990)<br />
Born in Anhui Province, TAI Jing-nong devoted<br />
his lifetime in writings and calligraphy. Tai received<br />
recognition from great literati Lu Xun and devoted<br />
his life in research and education in this area. He<br />
was praised by Chang Da-chien as the only person<br />
who could bring justice to Ni Yuanlu's calligraphy<br />
in Running Script calligraphy, and received high<br />
recognition in terms of achievement in literature<br />
and calligraphy.<br />
