AWARD BRIEF :
In recent years, the repidly aging population, stemming from the declining birthrate as well as
accelerating migration of young people to urban areas, has resulted in serious depopulation of
some regional communities in Asian countries.
Considering the way the residents are living in the areas and existing communities should be,
how do you think you can help rebuild the area as a sustainable community through architecture?
In general, the following cases are cited as the main problems of depopulating areas:
- As young people moved to the city, the entire region becomes aged and there is no successor for
regional industry or elderly care.
- Advanced aging and population decline of an area make it difficult for the local infrastructure to
be maintained, making it hard for the area to survive. There processes even cause the decline of
regional culture.
The challenge of this theme will be how you can comprehend and recognize the problems of the
chosen area. Consider approaches such as, but not limited to those listed below:
- A mechanism to prevent the out-migration of young people
- A mechanism to promote in-migration
- Effective utilization of vacant permises
- A mechanism to revitalize regional industries
- A mechanism to attract more investment from outside sources.
