Klobasarna
After three generations of a watch repair
shop it was time for Logar family
to rethink their business - and being
great food aficionados, they decided to
open the first Slovenian only fast food
hole in a wall. Yummy Carniola sausage
(=kranjska klobasa), vegetarian jota and
ričet stews, sweet štruklji and (non)alcoholic
beverages make up a menu that
draws both tourists and locals alike. And
they even have Bevog beer which is
definitely a plus for us!
Moji štruklji Slovenije
No traditional Slovenian food list is
complete without štruklji – rolled pastry
with various fillings, wrapped, cooked
and sliced. It is thus no wonder that a
štruklji-only eatery Moji štruklji (My štruklji)
finally opened in 2017 at the main
farmers market. The couple behind it is
Monika and Peter Vogelnik who run
very popular Kofce mountain hut and
prepare there their famous štruklji. We
love their combos of traditional hearty
stews (ričet, jota, chicken stew etc)
and buckwheat groats with sauerkraut,
sometimes with local wine or craft beer.
It’s like being in the mountains but without
the hike!
Gelateria Romantika
We’ve evolved pass artificially flavored
ice cream we all grew up on (and still
turned out ok) and Ljubljana now sports
quite a few amazing gelato places. The
one we swear by is Gelateria Romantika
with its all-natural (no pre-made pastes
used), made in-house, crazy-flavored
gelato and sorbet which you can enjoy
in their tiny patio with a gorgeous view
of the riverside and castle - especially
during sunset hours. Try their seasonal
surprises like truffles, hazelnut and
asparagus, or all-time favorite chocolate
with Piran salt flower. If the owner
Mateja is there, chat with her and
see for yourself why she dropped her
lawyer’s career - being surrounded by
freshly made gelato is a much better
office!
