AMAZONIA
MAGIC
Giancarlo Rapetti
AN EXHIBITION OF OVER 200 IMAGES SHOWCASING THE ENVIRON-
MENTAL SECRETS OF THIS IMMENSE, MYSTEROUS LAND & ITS IMPACT
ON THE LIFESTYLE OF 12 INDEGINOUS GROUPS OF INHABITANTS.
video
AMAZONIA is a photographic
exhibition by Sebastião Salgado
which is being staged at the Vapore di
Milano showspace in Milan, Italy
until 19 November. It focuses on
landscapes and indigenous peoples,
with breathtaking aerial images of the
great forest and its inhabitants. They
amaze us with their ancestral
modernity and their great attention
to their own beauty - tribal make-up
and elaborate hairstyles - but with just
a hint of western influence. That’s not
to overlook the atmospheric beauty of
the landscape - mountains shrouded
in fog, “flying” rivers, torrential rains
and Islands in the Stream. Salgado’s
exhibition is the result of seven years
spent by this Brazilian photographer
immortalizing the character of what
was once called... The Green Hell.
