Similes<br />
A simile compares one thing with another, usually using<br />
the words ‘as’ or ‘like’; for example:<br />
She slept like a log.<br />
The sea is as smooth as glass;<br />
The s<strong>and</strong> on my feet is hot like fire.<br />
The seagulls swoop like vultures;<br />
The sun is as fierce as an angry tiger.<br />
1. (a) Underline the four similes in the poem.<br />
(b) In each line of the poem, circle the two things being compared.<br />
2. Match the beginnings <strong>and</strong> endings of these well-known similes.<br />
